Last Scrutiny meeting...

Whiteshill
This blog is a bit of a catch up of scrutiny that I've missed what with Christmas and all....

Scrutiny was back on 6th December covered a number of issues like the launch of the Task and Finish group on seeking more info re allotments, play areas and community orchards across the District...this is about trying to get a clearer picture of what is needed - in terms of resilience do we need to invest more in allotments?

It is worth noting in the Stroud Town survey in 2008 protecting the town's small green spaces was a top priority for 61% while in third place was more facilities for older children.  I'm a particular fan of natural playgrounds - see my letter here saying more about that - there is a blog with some great examples if you have loads of time to look: http://playgrounddesigns.blogspot.co.uk/

Also at Scrutiny was a discussion re the Fit for the Future consultation - I made points that I've blogged previously about - see here. We do need to get away from imposed solutions on problems - see here a short video about co-production that makes that point only too well....

There was also a bit of a discussion re the canal; some fuss at the beginning as we had been promised a report into lessons learned regarding the changes to plans that have been needed - largely due to economic turn down but also I suspect over-optimistic plans which perhaps could have had more work on - we'll see - while we need to go forward it is clear if we can learn lessons then we are less likely to get into such difficulties later....anyhow the report will be coming at the next meeting....
