Bin bag latest

Previously on this blog I've raised the issue of bin bags littering our streets.

I've now had the official answer from Stroud District Council - through its Partnership with Serviceteam they had introduced a trial involving the yearly delivery of bulk supplies of replacement refuse sacks to some or all householders in Stonehouse. The trial was used to determine whether this method of delivery would be successful and if so, whether it could be used throughout the District. SDC's answer:

Unfortunately, in light of the problems experienced by householders, a decision has been made through the Partnership Board, to discontinue the trial with effect from this November...It is unfortunate that we have not been able to proceed with the trial and expand this method of delivery to cover more properties. However, in light of the problems experienced this did not seem possible without a signficiant increase in resources. Some of the issues included:-

• A number of properties were hidden away from site
• A significant number of properties not having space at the front or rear of their premises to leave the bulk supply of sacks.
• Sacks being taken in between their delivery and the time the householder returns home
• Difficulties in providing adequate access to the supply of bags to those householders who could not recieve deliveries at their properties (see above reasons), through local outlets.
This seems more than a shame and I can't quite believe the results! What about delivering sacks every quarter? It just doesn't seem right - worse still I fear that our Council will be under pressure to adopt Wheelie bins in response to Health ans Safety arguments - Wheelie bins are hideous.
