Stroud Life reports on "New life for old Stroud pub". Many of us had heard rumours but I am delighted to see them confirmed that we will be getting a cafe and B&B - this is a central location in Cainscross and at last things are moving there - we still have Tricorn House on the verge of development - see Ecotricity plans here - but there are still some big hurdles to get over - not least that a proposal for a residential home was recently submitted for the site.
It is hoped DB's Hotel re-opens as Fresh Ground Cafe and B&B in September. It was back in November 1999, 'The White Horse' underwent a £155,000 re-fit and became DB's Hotel. The then owners Pubmaster wanted to turn the two-bar pub into a venue for young people, but it closed several years ago and has stood empty ever since.
Stroud Life report that: "New owners Keith and Theresa Hart from Pershore, Worcestershire, are busy renovating the old coaching house on the corner of Cainscross Road and Cashes Green Road. The former White Horse pub – affectionately known in years gone by as the Scabby Donkey – has been shut for several years. Its boarded up windows have blighted the area but the couple are determined to return it to being a neighbourhood hub."
They already have their website at cainscross.com and a page on social networking website Facebook. Very good luck to them - as someone who enjoys a coffee I will be there to check it out.
