Nuclear-Free Zones nearly cover the world

I think I might have covered this petition before but wanted to highlight it again - if you agree with millions of others that the government should scrap plans to spend in excess of £76bn on replacing Trident with a new generation of nuclear weapons then please join the Rethink Trident movement and join me in signing this petition:

Interestingly combined with treaties prohibiting the placement of nuclear weapons in outer space and the Antarctic, much of the world is now covered by one of five existing nuclear weapons-free zones (NWFZ).

NWFZs have been established through multilateral treaties in regions such as Latin America, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia and since July, Africa - they play an important element in the nuclear non-proliferation regime. It is a great pity the UK can't also join.
