Stroud Events


Here’s the current list of things we know about that are happening in the near future.  Where relevant, we’re also listing events a bit further afield that you might be interested in, too. These are local events that are (unless it says otherwise in the listing) run by assorted local groups – these are all independent of the Green Party.
If you are aware of other talks, events, workshops or other community activities in the coming week or so, please do mention them in the comments. If there’s an event you would like our support in promoting, please email the details to brynnethnimue (at) gmail (dot) com.

Vigil for Gaza
There will be a vigil for Gaza this Saturday 2nd August  from 12 to 1 pm
in Stroud High Street. Please bring suitable placards and spread the word to anyone else

Meadow maintenance using a scythe and other hand tools – Adults Only
Saturday 9th August :  1pm – 4pm

Our recent beginners’ workshop in scything sold out very quickly. So, due to popular, demand we are running this shorter session and there are only 10 places available. You will learn about meadow maintenance scything and other means of cutting, then raking and collecting the grass and meadow plants and putting them on compost piles. Also included will be pond construction and making swales to channel rain water towards the pond and bog.

Wet Wonderland Day – a day out for all ages
Saturday 15 August  10am – 2pm  - donations requested, no booking required
Venue: Rackleaze, Cam
This Natural Reserve site comprises natural wet grassland which is in decline both nationally and locally.  This local site is just one of the projects being cared for by Stroud Valleys Project. Wet Wonderland Day is an opportunity to explore and learn about this fascinating Nature Reserve. Here, using nets and pots and with the help of a local insect specialist, you will find all kinds of insects and pond creatures. You will also discover some of the many birds on the site.
Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Pond Dipping Session
Wednesday 6 August   Session 1: 10-11am  & Session 2: 11.15- 12.15pm
Wednesday 13 August   Session 1: 10-11am  & Session 2: 11.15- 12.15pm
Venue: Cainscross
Each session is £2 per child and it’s free for accompanying adults
Each family group MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT and there will be a maximum of 10 children per session.
Families will have a hands-on opportunity to get a closer look at the exciting variety of animals that live in our ponds, such as water snails, water boatmen and water beetles.
