Ruscombe resident at TEDxCheltenham
Ever
wondered how the natural way we use language relates to computers and
vice versa? Ruscombe resident and Computational Linguist Rachel Cotterill will be speaking at
TEDxCheltenham, to help us find out a little more: "In particular, she is interested in how we negotiate our social
roles and relationships in an online environment, where linguistic
style has to take on the role usually carried by body language and
vocal inflection. In the course of her work, she has demonstrated that
organizational hierarchies can be identified using a small set of
stylistic cues - but that we each have personal definitions of what
constitutes appropriate formality in an informal medium."
