Baxter's Field Flooding Concerns

On a cold windy Saturday in February County Cllr Sarah Lunnon (Green) and District Cllr Molly Scott Cato (Green) took a walk along the route of the Slad Brook in Stroud  (see photo). Although not immediately obvious the Cllr were considering the potential impact of the Outline Planning Application submitted for 140 houses in Baxter's Fields. See my earlier blog post re Baxter's Field here.

Cllr Sarah Lunnon said "The Baxter's Fields application is of great concern, apart from issues around the loss of the green fingers that reach into Stroud and greater traffic numbers on an already congested Summer Street we must consider the impact on the Slad Brook of increased water run-off due to development. This area of Slad Rd flooded to 8ft, a depth that poses a risk to life and threatens the structural integrity of buildings, no proposals should be accepted that does not clearly demonstrate how it will mitigate this risk. The submitted outline application is just a brief indication, a request to agree to development so there is no indication that increased run-off can be mitigated and the impact further downstream, here, is potentially devastating. Stroud District Council's planners and planning committee must address this risk when making their decision".
