Why we must not cut libraries

I've just watched this new youtube from the 'We Love Libraries' campaign. It was a wonderful piece that captures the madness of closing our libraries - well worth a watch. In fact I liked it so much that I have sent the link to my local County Councillor, Tony Blackburn, Leader of GCC Mark Hawthorne and the Cabinet member Antonia Noble. You can also see the Stroud Against the Cuts March here.

Tomorrow the library campaign here in Gloucestershire will be making a statement to the County Council Cabinet meeting about the petition (now about 15,000 signatures!). It will include the ongoing objections to the plans for the library service. This follows the full Council meeting on the 19th, when rather than voting on the issue as many of us had hoped, a motion was passed that the Cabinet must take the petition into account in their discussions at this meeting.

The agenda can be seen here. The meeting will be ticketed. Given the Conservative majority at Council, the full Council meeting on the 16th is a rubber stamping exercise, so the final decision is likely to be made tomorrow - despite the fact that there are 3 consultation sessions still to be held and the online consultation doesn't close until the 11th???
