Stone Balancing: wonderful indeed!

I've just visited family in Devon for a long weekend and very nice too - one of the highlights was briefly meeting Adrian Gray - a stone balancer extraordinaire! See his website here: www.stonebalancing.com/

It was quite wonderful to see these huge stones balance in what looked like totally precarious positions - I thought at first there must be wires or glue or something but no - just a meditation and steady hands.....a sort of wondrous quiet...

"The most beautiful thing one can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all Art and Science." Albert Einstein

Well I have to say there seemed to be lots of evidence that folk were holidaying in the UK this summer - see the photo of Lyme Regis on Sunday - earlier in the year the Local Government Association sought to encourage more folk to holiday in Britain saying it "was good value and would help local businesses". Clearly cutting the flying would also be good for climate change.

Apparently up to 12 million Brits will shun flights and ferries abroad this year to holiday somewhere on the UK mainland and we'll spend pounds 27billion on holidays at home this year. This must be good for jobs, the recession and more - I also read about one new developments in terms of staycations - see Telegraph article here about your home becoming a 'hotel' - yes folk come into your home and serve meals etc.....

Anyhow as part of my weekend I also went to Beer which seems to be booming more than ever - this week it was goodbyes to the Napoli - the 62,000 tonne freight vessel that sunk two and a half years ago off the coast at Sidmouth - it has taken that long to clear the mess - and Beer now sports a cafe named after it - plus the galleries seemed to be doing well - ended up getting a Richard Wilson coffee mug - sadly Steamers was closed Monday so no coffee there this time.

A Richard Wilson coffee cup?

I suppose that a cup with "I can't believe it!" written on it would be appropriate for you, while you surf the intrawebs.
