In 2005, artists in San Francisco reclaimed an ordinary car parking space and turned it into a miniture park for the day. Since then a growing movement has adopted a Park(ing) Day where cities around the world appropriate parking spaces for public use.
This year it was on 19th September and apparently Leeds was going to join - it is certainly most appropriate for cities but Stroud centre has long needed more green and more trees - what about next year? See the website for inspiration: www.parkingday.org/

what about a wooden door in a door frame, and people who go through it get free green tinted glasses?
You could put it on the forecourt.
Plus give em a free flapjack.
Why stop at that? How about a free knitted egg cosy, or a clown nose made of recycled loo paper, dyed in beetroot juice?!
Whilst I generally applaud most ecological ventures I do think this is a bit daft (and, consequently open to ridicule). Better use could be made of people's time and energy.
Well have to confess it took my fancy - I do remember a street that was grassed over completely in Leeds - see image here:

When people see the green and realise what they are missing by having so much tarmac the hope is that it will lead to more trees and green spaces in our towns and cities....
...mind you free egg cosies only if promise to use on free-range eggs?
Why stop at parking spaces? If 10% of parking lots each year were converted into urban allotments ...
