Stratford Road bus shelter

A while back a comment on this Blog asked whether we could get a bus shelter outside Tesco on the Stratford Park Road - see 19th September Blog. The Town Council had been working on this but it is quite extraodinary how Tesco appear to ignore letters or take ages upon ages to answer - I've still not had a reply to my own letter - I will write again but the Town Council have had some contact and are talking to others - one reason apparently given (not sure if this was from Tesco) was that only a couple of people wait there.

This is plainly not true so I've sent the two photos here to the Town Council to use in their negotiations. I don't go that way lots but on many occasions I've seen people waiting - and quite often many more than two people - in one of these photos you'll see people waiting at both stops and in the second you'll see a crowd of people waiting for the Tesco free bus - not in the photo that time were at least 5 others waiting at the other stop. Let's hope Tesco move on this one soon - surely it is in their interests to support such a measure.

In the meantime if you've not responded to the Competition Commission re supermarket hrowth you can do so easily by following the link from my press release here.

A timely blog following the news that Summerfield will be closing in Stroud. Many elderly passengers are able to board the bus outside Lloyds to keep warm And alsomothers with prams. The bad weather over the last few days realy brings the need home without the use of the car.

Update would also be nice on cashes green hospital site,Standish Hospital site and when are the going to do something with tricorn house. The council were going to use powers over old smith and lee shop in stroud. Have there been any interest in using the site for flats.

Indeed floods are not great and no doubt a taster of things to come - will post something on them in next days as have been looking at planning issues around this.

Agree some Somerfield customers will need to take the bus to Tesco - I'd prefer if more local food shops were able to fill the gap - but sadly at the moment the shops in town tend to be more expensive to customers than supermarkets for alot of things - but do look closely at prices - the Farmers Market and other market stalls often beat the supermarkets easily on everything but those key supermarket loss-leaders. The new butcher also supports local farms like the Godsells in Randwick - I'm hoping it might all lead to a rival of local shops....

As for Standish the whole thing has gone very quiet indeed - very strange - a few enquiries tell me that David Drew is asking again why the hold up.

Cashes Green Hospital site, as you note, has also gone quiet - the last report from Glos Land for People came out in September:

As you are probably aware GLP hopes to be gifted the former hospital site by English Partnerships in order to deliver a new form of local ownership. If the plan goes through, the 11-acre site could provide up to 55 new affordable homes. I understand they are still waiting to hear.

Lastly Tricorn House - my question about using powers like those used in Stroud High street - and that took years to organise - was met with a definite no. I am informed, that the problem remains, the owners are trying to charge v much more than what the site is worth - some £3m was quoted but not sure how reliable that is. However a well known local business man informed me a few weeks ago he is interested in the site - I suspect the price will be the main problem.
