Sounds like a blast. I am sure the people of the Middle East are eternally grateful that they have you guys to solve their problems over cake and coffee.....

This seems a pretty worthless comment to me. It was a discussion, not a problem-solving summit. Everyone who was there learnt something and heard many different views; such knowledge and opinions are valuable in themselves.

The sad state of our media and three main political parties means that these issues just don't get discussed properly - there was a time I remember when papers like The Mirror would cover all sorts of ideas and political parties still discussed policies - now policy is presented to them - this cafe discussion seems like it was an opportunity to further understand the issues, talk to people who have experienced life in those countries, hear different and often opposing views and explore ways forward. The discussions I've been to in the past are not party political - infact all parties have attended them. Is the anonymous comment above suggesting that increasing our knowledge is pointless? Surely it is vital to talk to one another - how else can we bring about the change we so need if we don't have the information or understanding??
